Togatus is the independent student media at the University of Tasmania, by students, for students. It is a place for discussion, debate, and dissent on any aspect of the university student experience. Togatus offers a fun, collaborative working environment where freedom of expression and creativity is encouraged.

This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in media and communications. This position also gives insight on how Togatus operates, and it provides an excellent starting point to progress to higher responsibilities.

Four Editorial Assistant positions are available.

Contract:  The contract commences on the 27th of March and ends on the 30th of November 2019. The Editorial Assistant position is voluntary, however hard work and dedication is appreciated and recognised.

Demand: Approximately 3 hours per week.


Editorial assistants work in collaboration with the editors, undertaking production of duties as required.

    • Propose and create content for online and print publication on a regular basis.
    • Assist in editing articles, as required.
    • Monitor multiple blogs and social media feeds by student publications, the SRCs, the TUU State President, noteworthy writers, news outlets etc. for relevant student news.
  • Attend meetings organised by the Editor-in-Chief, as required.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must be currently enrolled at the University of Tasmania. A Bachelor of Media degree or Journalism major/minor is advantageous but not required.

Desirable Skills

The ideal candidate will have good written and verbal communication skills, excellent eye for editorial detail, and a genuine passion for student media. They will have some experience in content production.

Immediate Supervisor

Deputy Editor, ultimately responsible to the Editor-in-Chief

Interviews for this role will be conducted within the following dates: Thursday 21st of March and Wednesday the 27th of March 2019.
