Togatus is the independent student media at the University of Tasmania, by students, for students. It is a place for discussion, debate, and dissent on any aspect of the university student experience. Togatus offers a fun, collaborative working environment where freedom of expression and creativity is encouraged.

This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in media and communications. This position comes with a great potential for professional development, networking, and an increased connection with the student community.

Two Copy Editor positions are available.

Contract:  The contract commences on the 27th of March and ends on the 30th of November 2019. Remunerated by honoraria (to be negotiated).

Demand: Minimum 10 hours per week.


Copy Editors are primarily responsible of the preliminary editing of all written submissions to Togatus. They also assist in proofreading Togatus’ print editions after the design stage.

    • Edit all written submissions, following Togatus’ editing process.
    • Fact checking of all written submissions.
    • Assist in proofreading print editions after the design stage.
  • Attend all meetings organised by the Editor-in-Chief, as required.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must be currently enrolled at the University of Tasmania. A Bachelor of Media degree or Journalism major/minor is advantageous but not required.

Desirable Skills

The ideal candidate will have good written and verbal communication skills, and an excellent eye for editorial detail. They will demonstrate a strong command of the English language. They will have some experience in content production.

Immediate Supervisor

Deputy Editor, ultimately responsible to the Editor-in-Chief.

Interviews for this role will be conducted within the following dates: Thursday 21st of March and Wednesday the 27th of March 2019.
